PINEWOOD RACEWAY – NEW CLUB MEMBERS WELCOME

Mention slot-cars and not many people would know what you are talking about. Say Scalextric and straight away they connect model cars racing around a plastic track. Now if you are hobbyist, car fanatic or untamed petrol head then model car racing could be for you. It’s great fun, can’t get you into trouble and it’s cheap. 

Pinewood Raceway in Wokingham is a club where scale model cars are raced on two permanent tracks. Just like Scalextric but faster and we think even more fun. Our main track is 130 feet long by six lanes wide and our lap record of 3.7 seconds – quite a challenge. Our smaller 90 feet five lane track is equally as much fun but has a few more curves to negotiate. This is the track we use for Scalextric or 1/32 scale cars although it can take 1/24 scale cars just like the main track. 

For adults, we are looking for some new members to come and join us on a Friday night and join in the fun, mixed with a little competitive edge. Minimum age is sixteen or father/mother son or daughter combinations (14 yrs up) and we open the club doors at 7:00 pm and finish at 11:00 pm. We can lend out cars and controllers so you don’t need to worry.

For kids, our Junior Club runs on Friday evenings from 6 pm. Racing starts at 7 pm prompt and finishes around 8 pm. Aimed at kids over six years old with mums or dads to accompany them. We aim to introduce kids and adults into the sport so that they learn the skills of preparing a car and racing. More importantly, we are trying to get people to have some family fun time, to bring their kids down and have a blast round the enormous track. 

Pinewood Raceway hosts a number of events throughout the year where other clubs come and visit and compete. So if the “bug bites” there is an opportunity to race at weekends as well as club night. Being a great venue and part of the Pinewood Leisure Complex in Wokingham, we are a friendly group of slot car enthusiasts who enjoy the sport and making new friends and socialising.
