UNPACKING ART: PORTRAITURE - Taking the lid off extremes in portraiture in parallel with major portrait exhibitions by John Singer Sargent and living artist Frank Auerbach.

Think portraits glowing with glamour, opulence, lush fabric and vivid colour meets obsessive repetition, charcoal and earth tones and you've got the polarised exhibitions of two genius artists.

We'll be looking at Sargent and Auerbach through the prism of their London portrait exhibitions to gain insights into each show and the mind of each artist. John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) and his portraits of affluent, society and celebrity clients - Frank Auerbach, who came to Britain aged seven, never to see his parents again. Now aged 92 he still works in his studio seven days a week. Find out what makes them tick and also the surprising link between them.

John Singer Sargent and Fashion exhibition is at Tate Britain until 7 July, while Frank Auerbach's Charcoal Heads runs at the Courtauld until 27 May. Help us unpack it all with Chris Holley at Wokingham Library, Thursday 16 May!
