Looking for the best family-friendly places in Berkshire for bikes, scooters and skateboarding adventures? Whether your little ones are wobbling along on balance bikes, racing around on scooters, learning BMX tricks or testing out skate park ramps, Berkshire has loads of brilliant spots for all ages.

From smooth lakeside paths and woodland cycling trails to beginner skate parks and pump tracks, here are some of the best places across Wokingham, Reading, Bracknell and beyond for outdoor wheeled fun.

Dinton Pastures Country Park – Wokingham

Address: Davis Street, Hurst, Wokingham, Berkshire, RG10 0TH

One of the best all-round family riding spots in Berkshire, Dinton Pastures has wide surfaced pathways winding around lakes, woodland and meadows. The flatter routes are ideal for scooters, beginner cyclists and younger children building confidence.

There’s loads of space for safe riding away from traffic, plus playgrounds, picnic spots and cafés nearby.


California Country Park – Finchampstead

Address: Nine Mile Ride, Finchampstead, Wokingham, Berkshire, RG40 4HU

California Country Park is fantastic for a family scooter or bike ride thanks to its smooth lakeside pathways and woodland trails.

Younger children can enjoy the flatter circular routes, while older riders may enjoy exploring some of the rougher forest tracks nearby. The adventure playground and café make this a really easy full morning out.


Cantley Park – Wokingham

Address: Twyford Road, Wokingham, Berkshire, RG40 5TU

Cantley Park is perfect for younger riders thanks to its wide tarmac pathways and huge open spaces. It’s a brilliant spot for children practising pedalling, scooting and turning safely.

 There’s a large playground and café nearby too.


St Crispin’s Skate Park – Wokingham

Address: St Crispin’s Leisure Centre, London Road, Wokingham, Berkshire, RG40 1SS

For older children and teens wanting to practice tricks and jumps, St Crispin’s Skate Park is one of Wokingham’s most popular skate and scooter spots.

The ramps and rails are suitable for scooters, BMX bikes and skateboards, making it a good mixed-use park for families with children of different ages.


Swinley Forest – Bracknell

Address: The Look Out Discovery Centre, Nine Mile Ride, Bracknell, Berkshire, RG12 7QW

Swinley Forest is one of Berkshire’s top cycling destinations. Families can enjoy miles of beginner-friendly forest fire roads and gentle woodland trails, while more experienced riders can tackle the famous mountain bike routes.

There are several easier family loops available near The Look Out Discovery Centre, making it suitable even for younger riders.


Longhill Park Skatepark – Bracknell

Longhill Park is one of the biggest and best skate parks in Berkshire, with a large variety of ramps, bowls and features suitable for skateboards, scooters and BMX bikes.

It’s especially popular with confident scooter riders and older children wanting somewhere more exciting than a standard playground.


Mill Park Skatepark – Bracknell

Mill Park Skatepark is a great beginner-friendly skate park with smaller ramps and features that work well for younger children and scooter riders learning new skills.

The surrounding park space also makes it good for combining with bikes and outdoor games.


Thames Path – Reading

Address: Popular access points include Thames Side Promenade, Caversham, Reading, RG1 8BD

The Thames Path offers some of the best scenic family cycling routes in Berkshire. The mostly flat riverside paths around Reading, Caversham and Sonning are ideal for family bike rides and scooters.

There are lots of opportunities for café stops, playground breaks and ice cream along the way too.


Caversham Skatepark – Reading

It’s particularly handy for combining with a riverside walk or cycle ride nearby along the Thames Path.


Little Heath Skatepark – Tilehurst

Sol Joel Park – Earley

Sol Joel Park is a lovely beginner-friendly spot for scooters and younger cyclists thanks to its smooth pathways and large open spaces. It has a large skate park which would suit all ages and abilities. Top tip get there early before for a quieter skate/scoot. 

The park also has a brilliant playground, sports facilities and lots of grassy space for picnics or ball games after your ride.


Spencers Wood Skatepark – South Reading

A hidden gem for local families, Spencers Wood Skatepark is a relaxed community skate park popular with scooter riders and BMX kids.

It’s usually quieter than some of the larger Berkshire skate parks, which can make it less intimidating for beginners.


Dorney Lake – Near Windsor

Dorney Lake is one of the best beginner cycling locations in Berkshire. The smooth 5km traffic-free loop is ideal for children learning to ride, scooters and even roller skating.
